Promoting Mental Health in the Academic Workplace
Keith Dobson, Ph.D.
November 3, 3021
Time: 1 p.m. EST
We have all heard the saying that “There is no health without mental health.” This session will consider the role of mental health on campus, particularly in light of the COVID- 19 pandemic. We will review the major signs or indicators of well- being and distress across the continuum of mental health, so that we can effectively monitor the well- being of both ourselves and others. The session will focus on ways to promote mental health for one’s self, as well as effective strategies to talk about mental health issues in the workplace with faculty, staff and students. This session will include a formal presentation, but also an interactive component to discuss current and impending issues faced by those who attend.
Keith Dobson is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary, as well as a senior consultant for the Opening Minds program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. He has been at the University of Calgary since 1989 in a variety of roles, including Head of Psychology and a member of the Board of Governors, but has worked in the field of mental health for decades. He will bring his knowledge of both areas to this session, to promote both personal and organizational well- being
